Just sold this one today. Carved on dark walnut with three coats of varathane. Note the keyholes at the back to hang it on the wall. Made with the special bit, just set the bit selection to 3/8 straight. Why three? Gives you a choice of how solid it will be on the wall. If you have heavy use, like many people with heavy keychains, then you would hang it with 2 screws. Use the top hole for light use.

Here is my latest carving. My wife is Chinese and her father is an award winning calligraphist.

If you cannot read Chinese characters, ;-) this is the character for Love.

Carved in purple heart, Wood was dyed using TransTint and finished with Zinsser Seal Coat Shellac.

I was attempting for the face of the character being black, raised carving and background being natural purple heart.

A textured background was carved behind the character, (hard to see)

Not sure If I like the deep purple heart color. My wife and her father really like it.

Character was scanned in on a flat bed scanner. Image was prepared for carving in Paint Shop Pro X2, saved as a bitmap file.

Height map and character bevel was created in Mesh Cam. Pattern imported into designer.

Carve time was around 45 minutes at "Best" setting.

Thanks

Did a 48" long deer scene from the CW pattern store on yellow pine 1.5" thick. as you can see on the pic, the border at the far right was drifting in Y, the cause was the roller support I placed outside the machine to hold the weight of the board was not adjusted high enough, so that end of the board sagged a little and the end of the carving drifted. The carving bit got caught in the wood as it was struggling to move. The carving reached the end nonetheless. I'll have to cut off the ends but the rest of the carving is a success. That's a gift for the guy who gives me lots of wood, he's a hunter(:P)
