Hey guys:

Trying to do some sign carving. Would love to have
CC centerline text tool, but I'm retired and on a fixed budget
and 100 bucks for soft ware seems a little steep.

Question, can I just use a 60 deg bit with the regular text
format? I would like to try this. Has anyone else tried it?

Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Hey Guys

So I just picked up a 2nd hand CW here in the UK. I haven't had it a week and I know I want the Rock Chuck !! ;)

But I have some questions. If I use the Rock Chuck, does that then mean I can use carving\router bits that I have sources locally? i.e will standard bits fit? I take it that the best option for me would be to get the 1/2 kit with the 1/4 and 1/8 sleeves? Does that give me the most versatility?

I take it shipping to the UK isn't going to be a problem?

Lastly, what are the main differences between Rock and LHR's new offering?

Cheers

Well after solving the Z problem and carving 5 more plaques I started on another carving and all was going fine. I went out in the yard and started cleaning it up when I heard a masty sound from the machine so I went back to see what was going on. All looked fine and I thought that just maybe it hit a knot or something like that. Boy was I wrong, as I was watching it do it's thing it all of a sudden started to carv straight down and deep and then really started to gouge things up. I quickly dit the STOP and shut it down. Opening the lid I noticed the head of a screw on the top of the board and noticed that the truck was loose and that the bottom left bearing was missing. Once I removed the board I saw the bearing on the left side of the machine, the screw had snaped off and I couldn't push the old part in and unscrew the bit left in the bearing. I had to drill a hole in it and use an extractor to get it out, the bearing looks fine and should be able to be reused. I went to Sears.com parts and ordered 3 new screws and 1 new bearing just in case there is a problem. Paid extra so it would get here by the 27th instead of the 3rd of Dec. One thing is that when you go to Sears parts you will have to enter Carvewright in the search area because it doen not show up any other way (took me about a 1/2 hour to realize that). Also the list of areas of explosed pictures showing the parts and their # is always not true ass they have it set up with #1 in the first pick and so on. I was looking for #51 but the one I was in started in 143 so I had to go back and pick the one above it. I had to call to find this out and the guy on the phone was really nice and helpfull, Yea a phone sells person from Sears being helpful hard to beleive. Noe my question is that after looking at some of the parts explosed lists I see that the bearings look like they have a hex looking end on them where as the ones I have have a slot on the backside for a standard screwdriver. Is mine an old version and if I have to use the one I ordered will I have any problems, spacing or things like that? Don't think so but thought I would ask the experts here. Don't know why it happened as I haven't had any real problems such as vibrations as so many of you have talked about and I do check the tightness every now and then plus try and wiggle the truck to make sure it is OK. Now I am only happy when carving.:)

Viewing your MPC (11 replies)

Is there a way to view all the MPC carving files that you may have? I have been collecting and making a few of my own over the past 2 to 3 years and if you are like me you have hundreds of carving patterns. presently the only way to view them that I know of is to load them 1 at a time into the CarcWrite software which can take hours to find exactly what you are looking for. Last look I had 600 + and would like to be able to look and pick the one I want. Windows Explorer and Firehand Ember will not display a picture look at them.

If there is a program I would greatly appreiciate the link or where I can purchase it if needed or does the designer have a application in it that enables you to view the patterns in your saved folder not the one that you have actually carved already.

Thanks

Z Sensor Problems (10 replies)

I am having a problem with the Z sensor. Here is what I go through.
1. Select carve project. OK
2. Machine starts measuring board. OK
3. Ask for bit selection and then insert bit. OK
4. Truck goes to left up - down then to the right up - down a couple of times then back to the left. (sometimes truck goes down and up then to the center of the board and wants the bit inserted all over again)
5. Finds board far left down - up then over to board and pokes slightly into board and gives me a "Z" error and have to STOP and start all over.

Just where the heck is the Z snsor located? Am I headed for some expensive repairs as money is real tight now, that is why family and friends are getting hand crafted items this year (which is a good and better thing).

I have been on every carve site that I could find plus the Operators Manual is of no use and no one has touched on the subject of how to adjust or repair this sensor. One did talk about loose screws on the belt holder so I checked and no problem there. The "Z" Truck is nice an tight with no movement when I try and wiggle it in all directions. The people at CarvWright told me that my machin was out of warrintie and that it would cost me $25.00 per incident or $150.00 a year.

I only have about 25 hours on the motor and about 38 hours total on time. I am starting to do the Christmas stuff and need some help in fixing this problem. I blow out the machine after every use and have lightly oiled with 3 in 0ne oil both the Y & Z tracks.

HELP

Hi

Just finished installing the RC. How far do I need to insert the bit in the adapter? Once the bit is properly in does it need calibration or anything else?

Thanks

Evening all,

I don't have a graphics program like I thought. What would be recommended: Photo Shop or Corel Draw

Is one easier to use than the other? Can you do more with one than the other?

Thanks
